The Mascot Bible installment

I am not sure if you are aware but I have been working on a couple of book projects lately. The one that I believe I will finish first is The Mascot Bible! How to create your own mascot program of biblical proportions. I have tried to make it as descriptive as possible by telling fun stories from my performance and small business career and what those experiences have taught me about how powerful mascot programs can be for your organization. So here is my first installment from The Mascot Bible...

First...Tell a Great Story!

When an organization decides to create a new mascot what do you think is the first question they always ask? That's right....what is it going to be? What will "it" look like? I can tell you from experience that "what" the mascot will look like is about third or fourth on the priority list when considering the overall success of any program. I know that brand managers hate me when I say this but I really don't care what it looks like...just give me a costume that will allow a great performer to be great. But the most important step in creating brand and revenue success with a mascot program is by developing a back story for your mascot. First...tell a great story.

I have been writing "The Mascot Bible" a book that I hope will be the quintessential guide for building a top notch mascot program. Here is an excerpt from the Second Commandment - Tell a Great Story...

Mascot Bad News!

I wasn’t at all shocked by the latest story about a professional mascot performer exercising, at the least, poor judgment when he was caught in a prostitution sting

Drive Revenue with your Mascot Appearances

I am always surprised when I hear that a college or professional sports team doesn't charge for their mascot appearances. For them it is an important branding initiative to have their mascot (and their image/logo) out in the community as much as possible.

I have been surprised by the success of our free webinars about MoneyMakingFun. Our clients have been telling us for a few years that some of the most valuable services that we have provided has been our expertise and experience. It is always hard to call yourself an expert but when your clients start telling you then I guess we should listen to them.

The Power of Fun an excerpt

I have been spending some time lately working on a book about The Power of Fun. I thought it might not be a bad idea to include an excerpt from an early draft. This is about what it was like getting the job of a lifetime even before the Phanatic was born. I hope you enjoy it and please let me know what you think by e-mailing me your comments (david@raymondeg.com)...

How to create successfully

I am talking to performers almost everyday and the first question they ask is always the same...can you help me develop some skits? I really need more skits and routines! My knee jerk reaction is to give them the latest and greatest skit I have seen because I know their pain...

What's That Smell?

What's that smell? "Hey, insert your character's name here, you really need a bath". Unfortunately these comments are often hurled from spectators and fans at their mascot all over the country on any given hot and sticky summer evening. Whats worse is that is one of the kinder comments that can be heard. Nothing erodes the value of your character brand more than ignoring one of the most basic steps towards success...regular costume cleaning and maintenance.

Tough Times = Good News

I was watching the nightly news with Brian Williams last night when they introduced their “good news” segment. They asked viewers to e-mail good news stories so that Nightly News could cover them. They were inundated with so many stories that Mr. Williams commented, "If we were to send a camera crew to cover each of them it would take up the entire week of Nightly News!" Wow…what a concept…a whole week dedicated to good news!
